In celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the first time the Australian naval fleet entered Sydney Harbor, the "Chief of Navy" invited 50 different nations to send a warship and/or tall ship to Participate in the International Fleet Review. It was a multi day event from October 3rd through the 11th and culminated in a grand finale of fireworks set to music and a video-show projected on the Opera House (which was about as cool as it sounds).
Lucia and I went down to the Botanic gardens with some friends of ours to watch the air shows, helicopter parade (like 100 or so helicopters), parade of ships, and the fireworks. It was a really amazing day! The weather was perfect, the wine was cold, the cheese was stinky, and the IFR events were fantastic!
OH the best part for me was when a Jet came screaming down towards the bridge over the harbor (couldn't have been more than a couple hundred meters off the water), and then just does a 90 degree turn straight up, almost immediately disappears into the sky-- and never comes down. People were looking for that thing for about 5 minutes. It was awesome.
